R.S. Villanueva & N.M. Garcia
The history of San Juan - Sto. Nino was established in the year 1948. It was established
with the help of the late barrio lieutenant Hermogenes Silang through the former Fiscal
Geminiano Beloso of Talaga, Mabini, Batangas and former Congressman Oligario B. Cantos
of Batangas City.
The lot were the school was erected was bought at a cost of P 800.00 from barrio
lieutenant Hermogenes Silang which amount was pooled from the contribution of the barrio
people, each house then donating P 10.00.
The first erected building was composed of two roomsbut because it was the first time
formal classes will be conducted in the barrio, first grade was opened during the year
1948 with Mrs. Josefa Panopio as the teacher. From then on, there was follow-up grade.
Mr. Andres Garcia followed and handled Grade II class. The following year, Grade III
class was opened with Mr. Crispulo Sandoval as the teacher. Because of lack of rooms Mr.
Sandoval with the help of the PTA rented a private house for his class. Fortunately it
was followed again by the next grade. The barrio people and Mr. Cayetano Aguila who was
then the Grade IV teacher rented a house for this grade. These two rented houses were
the residences of Mr. Pedro Aldovino and Mr. Ponciano Castillo.
With the help of the succeeding lieutenant, Mr. Arsenio Villanueva and the barrio
people, a school building composed of two rooms was acquired from the government. Grade
III and IV classes were transferred to this school building.
For sometime until 1961, only Grades I, II, III and IV were opened and being operated.
The teachers who taught during thses years were Mrs. Clerigo, Mrs. Emerenciana
Castillo, Mr. & Mrs. Conrado Abanico, Miss Aguila, Mrs. Pacita Panopio, Mrs. Corazon
Tanilon, Miss Dona (now Mrs. Dolor) and Mrs. Primitiva Sandoval.
In the school year 1962, the Grade V class was opened. With the help of the PTA, a nipa
H.E. building was erected. The teachers then were Mrs. Emiliana Mationg - Grades I and
II, Mrs. Aquiatan, Josefina - Grades V and VI and Mr. Rosauro Acquiatan - Grades III and
IV.
When Mrs. E. Mationg was promoted as principal to Nag-iba Elem. School, Mr. Macalincag
took charge of the school principal. San Juan and Mainaga schools were joined as one
region, Mr. Macalincag as in charge.
During the school year 1963, a nipa school building was constructed. It was built and
constructed with the help of the teachersn and the barrio people through their material
donations. The rooms then were rearranged. The second building was divided into three
rooms. Grades I, II, III were transferred to this building . Grade IV held their classes
in the nipa school building and Grade V remained in the nipa H.E. building. The
following school year, Mr. Manuel Arguelles and his councilors namely Mr. Pedro Agina,
Mr. Isidro Gonda, Mr. Alejandro Silang, Mr. Cayetano Paglinauan, Mr. Juan Castillo and
Mr. Leocadio Silang acquired a school building. The Grade VI class was opened. Thus
March 1964 witnessed the presentation of diplomas of first Grade VI graduates.
During the school year 1968, Mr. Manuel Arguelles and his councilors again acquired a
Pre-Fab school building from the government. It was composed of six rooms. From then on
Grades I to VI held their classes in this building. The nipa H.E. building having
destroyed by termites was totally removed and demolished by the people. The building
which was formerly for Grades I, II and III was reconstructed in place of the nipa H.E.
building which was destroyed by termites. The building which was formerly for Grade VI
was made as the office and the libraray building.
The following school year, the very energetic barrio captainMr. Manuel Arguelles and his
councilors acquired a concrete H. E. building. It was then built in the same year. The
former H.E. building was made as the Industrial Arts building for grades V and VI. At
present the school of San Juan - Sto. Nino has four buildings namely the Pre-Fab school
building, for Grades I to VI, the office and library building, the Industrial Arts
building, and the H.E. building.
Last school year 1972, the barrio captain Mr. Manuel Arguelles made possible to have a
concrete stage erected. He also made possible the building of the dike which bound the
school into a concrete wall. It was also through the effort of the barrio captain Manuel
Arguelles that the basketball court which at present can be seen in front of the school
buildings was erected. These projects were made possible with the help of the late
Governor Feliciano Leviste who gave aid for the improvement of the barrio.
The present set-up of teachers of San Juan-Sto. Nino Elementary school are Mrs. Martha
S. Manalo - Grade I, Miss Nieves Garcia - Grade II, Mrs. Emerenciana V. Dalangin - Grade
