Barangay Poblacion was created after the foundation of the town Mabini on January 1918,
under the leadership of Don Francisco Castillo popularly known as Kapitan Kiko. He was
the founder of Mabini. Barangay Poblacion is located at the heart of the town bounded in
the east by Barangay Calamias, in the west Barangay Sampaguita, in the north by P.
Niogan & in the south by P. Balibaguhan.
It is the center of social, economic, educational, religion, health, peace & order. The
Catholic Church, the Municipal Building, the Police Station, Health Centers, Public
Market, Telecommunication services, Post Office, two private secondary Highschools the
Mabini College of Batangas and Saint Francis Academy, the two private elementary schools
Lady Fatima School and First Mabini Catholic School, the two active Rural Banks the
Mabini Rural Bank and Bangko Kabayan or Ibaan Rural Bank are located in barangay
Poblacion.
The Plaza of Mabini, called the Freedom Park is in the front of the different offices
like the Post Office, COMELEC, BIR, Barangay Hall of Poblacion, Senior Citizens and
other offices. As the years go by, many changes took place in this park. The former
Basketball Court and Stage is converted to a newly erected covered court constructed
through the untiring effort of our beloved Hon. Mayor Rowell M. Sandoval. In this court
programs are held in any ocassions especially during the town Fiesta. Not only programs
are being held here but also seminars, conferences, literary contest, sports like
volleyball and basketball but also birthdays, debuts and wedding ceremonies.
At present, the park is beautifully and carefully designed and surrounded by fence with
ornamental plants which give shade to the people. The monument of Don Francisco
Castillo reminded us of the good heritage left to Mabinians.
The present Barangay Captain is Mr. Francisco Hernandez. He is tendering one thousand
fifty four (1,054) flock under his fold and care. Some people of this barangay work in
offices and some in abroad. Some are teachers and employees in both public and private
firms in Manila and other places in the country.
Nowadays, very few earn a living by farming, raising livestock, vegetable gardens and
orchards. Many have their own sari-sari stores, small restaurants and eatery, houses for
rent, parlors, shops and rented stall in the public market. The people are hospitable,
keep their homes spic and span with ornamental flowers in front of their homes.
The climate is pleasantly cool but it is quiet warm during summer months.
It is hoped that progress, serenity and peacefulness of Barangay Poblacion will be
mainatained onwards.
