Simon C. Sawali, a resident of Estrella, and Florentino Villanueva of Sto. Tomas,
Mabini, Batangas approached to Representative Numeriano U. Babao, to ask help for
constructing a feeder road. The representative asked them the name of the sitio, Simon
C.Sawali gave "Estrella" as its name because of the sudden thought of the abundance of
Estrella flowers in the locality. Since then the place carries its name.
Estrella is a previously a Sitio of Barrio Talaga. It is a highland area. Stretching
northward with its base just more or less two hundred meters away from Talaga Elementary
School. Pilahan bound it on the west, by P. Lupa on the east, by Talaga on the
southeast, by Saguing on the southwest, by Solo and P. Anaho on the northeast. The
northern part of Estrella is bounded thousand square meters more or less, with almost
500 inhabitants.
The first settlers were simple people. They were engaged in farming and animal raising.
Their products were merely for their own consumption, such as rice, corn, rootcrops,
vegetables and fruits.
In addition, the reidents are happy folks. They have "subli", "pandangga" and modern
dances as their means of entertainment and social activities. Every year, they have
Thanks Giving Mass in their "tuklong" or chapel. They are all God-loving people. During
Lenten Season, they have their so - called "pabasa" in honor of the sacrifices of God.
They were all aware of the importance of mass media, and other musical instruments as
their means of recreation. Radio broadcast is the most popular of them.
With the strong belief that independence from the barrio of Talaga will bring them
faster growth and progress, the residents of Sitio Estrella petitioned the Provincial
Board through the Mabini Municipal Council to create, recognize and declare the
Independence of Estrella as a barrio. And on March 19, 1968 the said petition was
granted in accordance with the provisions of the Revised Barrio Charter.
